Clothing visually communicates. Its function is to address physical, social and psychological needs.
Physically, clothing can provide protection.
Clothing communicates roles. A uniform signifies a profession or adherence to a group’s identity.
Clothing is a social code. It can challenge or affirm, gender roles and beauty ideals.
Across time and culture, status and rank can be communicated by what is worn.
What judgments are made based on dress? What do we infer about a person based on what we see? What choices are in our closets?
Clothing and Character: Monochromatic Scheme
Assignment: Due 12:00 pm, Tuesday (4/28)
Create a character and curate their outfit. Choose ten (10) different articles of clothing or accessories that reflect their personality. Use a monochromatic color scheme. Stay within one main hue family, your articles will vary in color temperature, tint, tone, shade, saturation and value.
The series of questions you will answer are in our google shared folder titled “Character Development.” Copy and paste these questions into a new document. Upload this document to your shared folder it is apart of your assignment.
2. Begin to dress your character
After developing your character, thoughtfully curate an outfit that reflects their persona. What clothing articles and accessories visually communicate the "essence" of person you developed. You are the director, dress the actor to transform them into the character they are playing.
3. Go shopping
Take screen shots of the ten articles you choose. Use shopping portals, google image search...etc.to collect our imagery. Trouble finding ten? Think beyond pants and shirts…what type of car do they drive? what watch do they wear? their phone case? swimsuit? etc.
4. Upload your ten articles and character development doc to your shared google folder.
